Speed thrill: Racing bikes clash; three die, three others injured

Kolkata: Three bikers were killed and three others were injured critically when two bikes carrying three persons each clashed with each other on the Digha-Nandakumar state highway late on Wednesday night.
Police said that victims were racing motorcycles at dead night near Sredharpur area. According to the police, the two bikes were running at a top speed when one bike hit the other. Due to the high speed of both the vehicles, the bikers fell at a distance.
The victims have been identified as Mohit Singh (17), Akash Khara (17) and Biplab Biswas (22). They were all residents of Domjur in Howrah. A group of six friends from Howrah started for Digha in two motorcycles. On their way to Digha, the bikers were speeding up when one of the bikers lost control and hit the other bike.
The local residents heard a loud thud and rushed to the spot to find all the six youth lying on the road. Both the bikes were badly damaged in the accident.
All the victims were rushed to the hospital where three were declared brought dead by the doctors while the other three have been undergoing treatment with critical injuries on their bodies.
Police said that the accident took place as both the bikes were at a top speed. The police are investigating if the victims were in an inebriated condition when the accident took place.
According to the doctors, the health condition of some of the injured persons is still serious.
After being informed, police rushed to the spot and recovered the two bikes that were badly damaged in the accident. Police said that none of the bikers were wearing helmets.
The incident had created traffic jam on the road for a while.
Last Sunday, two bikers were killed when the bike they were riding on was hit by a speeding trekker.
The local residents staged demonstration on the road with the dead bodies. Around 7 passers-by received injuries in the accident. Scuffle had broken out between the local people and the police when the latter reached the spot to bring the situation under control.
The incident also led to traffic jam on the Contai-Midnapore state highway.
