Special educator held for torturing infant

Kolkata: Police have arrested Chaitali Mukherjee, a special educator for allegedly torturing a two-and-a-half year old child, who had visited her to take lessons in speech therapy. Kathakali Malakar took her two-and-a-half-year-old son, who suffers from speech impairment, to Speech Plus on Prince Anwar Shah Road on Wednesday morning.
Mukherjee asked Kathakali to wait at the reception and started her class in a room housed on the first floor of the building.
After half an hour or so, Kathakali heard his son crying and saw the receptionist rush to the first floor with a bottle of Savlon and cotton.
She followed the receptionist and opened the door of the room.
She saw her son bleeding profusely and the special educator was sitting on his chest. The boy was crying and pointing Mukherjee to open the door. There were injury marks on his cheek.
Kathakali came down with his son and raised an alarm. She lodged a complaint with police.
Police officers arrived at the spot and the CCTV footage showed that Mukherjee was beating up the boy mercilessly.
She threw him on the floor several times. The boy received a head injury. Police arrested Mukherjee. Speech Plus authorities denied any torture by Mukherjee and said the boy was naughty.
Kathakali demanded exemplary punishment for Mukherjee and alleged that she had actually tried to kill her son.
Kathakali's lawyer said they will take up the matter in the Court and demand for stringent punishment so that parents of children with speech impairment do not suffer in the similar way in near future.
