Speaker tells Sovan to meet him next week

Kolkata: Speaker Biman Bandyopadhyay called up Sovan Chatterjee on Saturday and asked him to meet him in the Assembly next week.

The matter came to light after the members of the steering committee on Fisheries wrote to the Speakers complaining Chatterjee's long absence in the meetings. Chatterjee is the chairman of the steering committee on Fisheries.

Bandyopadhyay called up Chatterjee and asked him to see him next week in the Assembly.

Chatterjee was the Mayor of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation and was the state minister for Fire and Emergency Services, Housing and Environment.

In 2018, he resigned from the post of the Mayor as well as from ministership. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee filled up the vacancies shortly after his resignation.

But since then, Chatterjee, who is still an MLA, did not turn up to attend the sessions of the Assembly or the meetings of the steering committee.
