Soumitra Chatterjee now lends voice for theme sound of city puja

Kolkata: Thespian Soumitra Chatterjee has lent his voice for the theme sound of a popular Durga Puja pandal this year, the first time he been involved with such a project.

Soumitra, Ray's Apu in Apur Sansar, recited few lines Ami Sei Diganto Periye Asa Uttaradhikar (I have walked through the horizon, I am the flag-bearer) encapsulating the journey of the artisans over centuries, the history of the artisans' hub Kumartuli at a recording studio here on Saturday. The legendary actor, who is also a versatile stage actor and elocutionist, said later: "This is my first theme recital and I enjoyed doing it for Kumartuli Sarbojonin."
"This recital mirrors the story of potters of Bengal, of Kumartuli over the centuries," he said. Kumartuli Sarbojonin spokesman Debashis Bhattacharya said: "It was our long time wish to have Soumitra Chatterjee as part of our puja celebrations, to make him recite our theme. We are privileged that he agreed this time." The Kumartuli Sarbojonin had been winning numerous 'Sharad Sammans' in past few years, the awards given to city puja organisers by leading corporates and state-run agencies for theme and other aesthetic aspects.
