Soon, portal to ensure hassle-free registry marriages

KOLKATA: The state Judicial department is soon coming up with a portal to ensure hassle free registry marriages in the state. The decision of the state government comes in the wake of complaints of false marriages and huge demands of money from marriage registrars for the process.
"The move is aimed at ensuring transparency in the marriage process. Our marriage registration website rgmwb.gov.in will have
all the information so that
the bride and bridegroom
have a hassle-free marriage," state Law minister Moloy Ghatak said.
The portal is being developed in association with National Informatics Centre (NIC) which is the premier science and technology organisation of Government of India in informatics services and information and communication technology applications.
The forms can be filled up online. Hence, the bride and bridegroom will no longer have to pay umpteen visits to the marriage registry offices.
"There are sometimes complaints of fake marriage registration officers who overcharge for doing the formalities. The details of genuine marriage registry offices, the actual rates
and everything else will be available at the click of a mouse," a senior official of the Law department said.
The portal will also apprise the bride and bridegroom
and the documents needed to be furnished during the marriage.
"They only have to appear on the day of the marriage along with the witnesses. The certificate of the marriage will also be available online and can be downloaded from the website," the official added,
All the marriages that are taking place will be kept in a digitized format on the portal to facilitate people if there is any dispute pertaining to the marriage.
The government has also plans to hold workshops in districts to make common people aware of the effectiveness of the portal.
