Soon, govt to facelift part of Jessore Road

Kolkata: The state government will be taking up the work of beautification of a stretch of Jessore Road soon.
A survey will be carried out by the state Public Works Department (PWD) soon and subsequently, a detailed project report will be prepared.
Administrative approval for the work of detailed project report for improvement of "existing flanks of the road, footpath, drain, etc including beautification of roadside land" has been sought.
It is learnt that the work will be carried out from the stretch of Jessore Road from Sarojini Naidu College to Kazi Nazrul Sarani.
According to a state government official, the beautification work along the road will start as early as possible. This is one of the main stretch through which vehicles pass to reach the airport.
Condition of the road has improved a lot in the past many years after the change of guard in the state. The Mamata Banerjee-government had taken several steps to strengthen the main arterial roads that connects the city, North Bengal and Bangladesh.
It is a century-old road that serves as the link between West Bengal and erstwhile East Bengal. It was the only route to go to airport when Kazi Nazrul Islam Sarani was not built in the seventies.
It may be mentioned that after the change of guard in the state, Bengal has witnessed an overall development. Besides developing the necessary infrastructure, the state
government also takes necessary steps for beautification. Eminent people from different states and abroad had appreciated the way the city and the other parts of the state has been beautified.
Starting from the state government to the local civic bodies, beautification projects were taken up in their respective areas. Now, the stretch of Jessore Road from Sarojini Naidu College to Kazi Nazrul Sarani is going to get a facelift.
