Soon, docu feature on Durga Puja to attract global audience

Kolkata: In a bid to woo global audience, a docu feature on Durga Puja, the first-of-its-kind from making of the idol to its immersion will be released soon.
Durga Darshan, the 40 minute docu feature, deals in details with the involvement of various people who make Durga Puja a success like the artisans, those who make the pandals, the organisers of different community pujas, the electricians looking after the lighting arrangements, the theme makers, those who compose music for big budget pujas and finally the pandal-hoppers have been highlighted.
Various socio-religious customs associated with Durga Puja like tarpan on the day of Mahalaya and prior to that the khuti pujo which
marks the beginning of making of the idol by the artisans have bene covered in the docu feature.
Its trailer has already created an interest
among the Bengali associations situated in other states and abroad.
It may be mentioned that following an initiative taken by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the state government has been organising a grand carnival on Red Road where the best pujas of the city take out tableaux marking the end of the grand festival.
It has been decided that from 2018, similar carnivals will be held in the districts. Also, the best idols along with the artefacts that are used to decorate the pandals
have been preserved at a museum at Eco Park. Many people from other states are coming to see the carnival. Both the state Tourism department and private tour operators are highlighting it to woo both domestic and foreign tourists.
Samrat Chattopadhyay, who has directed the docu feature, said: "Our theme is do not see community pujas on the net by take a walk around the puja pandals." The story is about a family that has been preparing to go out during the pujas.
