Soon, apply directly for state govt jobs through WBSSC app

The application for recruitment of staff for state government jobs can soon be done through a smartphone app in the near future.

The Bengal government is planning to put in a special feature on its existing app service, using which, a candidate can apply for government jobs.

West Bengal Staff Selection Commission (WBSSC) is working to introduce the special feature on its app, called as WBSSC — which can be found on any android mobile phones.

It may be mentioned that a candidate can already apply online through the website of the commission — www.wbssc.gov.in. But applying for jobs through an app is something which will happen in the near future.

"A candidate may or may not have a computer. But now, most of the people have smartphones. We are planning to introduce a facility in the WBSSC app through which, candidates can apply for state government job," said K S Rajendra Kumar, Chairman, West Bengal Staff Selection Commission. WBSSC controls recruitments of Group B and Group C staff for different departments of the state government. The West Bengal Staff Selection Commission Act, 2011 enabled the commission to directly recruit for prescribed categories of posts and services in government establishments.

"All applications are done online. The candidates have to open the page in our website for online application. But applying from our app is something new. We are working on to bring that facility in future," the chairman further said. However, the WBSSC app has become widely popular. Within just eight months, around 10,000 downloads were done from the Google Play Store. The commission will also work to simplify the app.

The app offers vast and varied services. A candidate can get the latest news and notices from the app, information about the examination schedule, information about their admit cards by simply submitting examination name, registration number and date of birth. A candidate can also get information about the venue of the examination, result and interview schedule.
"I am personally active on my Twitter handle, @chairmanwbssc. A candidate can directly talk to me if they have any question," the Chairman added.
