Snehodiya organises its first Durga Puja

Kolkata: Snehodiya, the state of the art living for the senior citizens, has organized Durga Puja for the first time at the complex in New Town.

Swami Suviranandaji, general secretary Ramakrishna Mission Math and Mission inaugurated the Durga Puja on Thursday evening.

The most interesting feature of the Puja is that it is being organized by the senior citizens without taking any assistance from the youths.

The elders went to Kumartuli and bought the idol.

The dhakis have been organized and each day's puja has been sponsored by the members of Snehodiya and Swapno Bhor, the senior citizen's organization run by Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (Hidco).

On all four days of Durga Puja cultural programmes will be held by the Snehodiya members. Bhog wil be distributed during the pujas.

There is great enthusiasm among the members over the puja as they are trying to go back to their youth. Many of the members, who had held responsible posts during their service career are using their expertise to make the puja a flawless one.

Swapno Bhor through its programmes that are held through out the year keep the members busy.

Cultural programmes are held along with talks on various topics which are delivered by experts. Indoor games are held and prizes are given to the winners. A garden to grow organic vegetables has been set up where many senior citizens take part in gardening.
