Sleaze racket busted in South Kol, 5 held

Kolkata: A sleaze racket was busted from a flat in Charu market police station area on Tuesday night, where five persons including three women have been arrested.
Acting on a tip-off, the anti-women trafficking department of the city police raided the apartment situated on Sultan Alam Road on
Tuesday night and arrested the accused including the women for their alleged involvement in the racket. According to police, the
racket has been operating from the flat for
quite sometime.
Police said among the arrested were sex workers and some customers who were found in a compromising position inside the flat when the raid was conducted.
The investigation revealed that the arrested sex workers, aged between 21 and 27, used to visit the flat frequently. They used to visit some other places in the city as well, police came to know after the interrogation.
Some of the policemen went to the flat posing as prospective customers and caught the accused red-handed. Police have started a case under the Immoral
Trafficking Act.
They suspect that many others are also involved in the incident.
Cops received complaint from locals saying that certain "illegal" activities had been taking place inside the flat on the basis of which police raided the house.
As per preliminary investigation, they also came to know that women from various districts used to
come to the flat.
Police have started a detailed probe in this regard. They said there was a signboard of a tour and travel agency put up on the wall outside the flat, which police believe was kept there so that it does not arise the suspicion of the locals.
