Sleaze racket busted in Rabindra Sarani, 10 held

Kolkata: Kolkata Police have busted a sleaze racket from Rabindra Sarani in the Northern fringes of the city on Thursday and arrested 10 persons, including women.
Acting on specific information, a team of city police from the Anti Human Trafficking department of Lalbazar, raided a house at Rabindra Sarani and arrested the accused. Police came to know that illegal activities had been going on at a unisex beauty parlour, operated from the house for quite some time.
Among the arrested persons were seven women, who used to visit the beauty parlour frequently.
The locals told police that some men and women used to frequently visit the parlour. It did not arouse the attention of locals as it was a unisex saloon, but they later came to know about the illegal activities that were going on there. The accused will be produced before a city court on Friday.
Some of the seven women might be sex workers, police suspect. Among the rest were customers, police said, many of whom were found in a compromising situation.
Investigation has revealed that the arrested women
are mostly aged between 21 and 25.
According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that these women used to visit some other similar places in the city as well.
Police had received a complaint from locals, saying that certain "illegal" activities had been taking place inside the parlour, on the basis of which, police raided the house. Some of the policemen went to the flat posing as prospective customers and caught the accused red-handed.
Police have started a case under the Immoral Trafficking Act. They suspect that many others are also involved.
