Singer Silajit's son arrested, later released on bail

Kolkata: Dhi Majumder, son of singer Silajit, was arrested near Tollygunge Club under Regent Park police station late on Friday night. Around 400 grams of ganja was found from the car he was travelling in. He was, however, granted bail after being produced at a city court on Saturday.

Two of his companions who were also travelling in the vehicle have been arrested. A routine search was going on near Tollygunge Club on Deshapran Sasmal Road a little after midnight when the police intercepted the car. All the accused were allegedly in an inebriated state when the police stopped the car. They carried out a search inside the vehicle and seized the ganja which was kept under the rear seats.

It was also learnt during police interrogation that the singer's son and others spoke incoherently and eventually got arrested. The investigating officers are also probing what was the intention behind transporting ganja in the middle of the night.

The city police have intensified search in various parts of Kolkata, following the assault on model Ushashi Sengupta. Many, including bikers, have been arrested for various reasons.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reportedly instructed the police top brass to take prompt action against errant drivers.
