SI accused of asking for money to conduct probe

Kolkata: An officer of the Sub-Inspector (SI) rank of Kolkata Police has been accused of demanding money to conduct probe in a cheating case. A case has been initiated against the errant officer in this connection.

According to sources, during 2017 a resident of Behala had lodged a cheating complaint at Jadavpur police station, on the basis of which a case was initiated. After the case was started, the investigating officer allegedly asked for money in order to investigate the case properly. The accused SI had initially asked the complainant to bring some document and later asked for Rs 75,000.

When the complainant reportedly told that he is unable to provide such a huge amount of money, the SI allegedly stated that the investigation would not be done and he would not take any action against the accused persons.

Sources informed that last year, the complainant somehow managed to arrange the money and handed it over to the SI. But still, the investigation was stopped. Later, the complainant filed a case in a city court and police were subsequently instructed to act against the SI.

According to senior police officials, the complainant should have come to them as soon as the SI demanded money, instead of giving him what he wanted.

The accused SI has recently been transferred to another police station in North Kolkata. Sources informed that a

probe has been ordered in this regard.
