Shots fired at woman in Kasba, no casualties

Kolkata: Tension gripped the city's Kasba area on Saturday night, when two miscreants fired at an elderly woman at Rajdanga Main Road. The gunshot, however, missed the target. Sleuths investigating the incident have reasoned an old enmity being behind the incident.
Police sources informed that the complainant, Surojit Roy, had named two local miscreants Munna Pandey and Bidhan Sarkar, being behind the firing at his mother Sheila Roy. It was around 12 in the night when the duo came to the residence of Roy and tried to set it on fire by pouring petrol on the ground floor.
"They had come with a jar of petrol and after they poured a portion of it, my mother noticed it and as she rushed downstairs shouting, they fired three bullets. Luckily, the bullets missed the target," Roy said.
It may be mentioned that the dispute between Munna and the Roy family had begun during Kali Puja last year, over taking electric connection of the local club through the supply line of Munna. When the matter came under Munna's notice, he, along with some of his associates, assaulted Surojit and his brother Subrata.
The two brothers retaliated on December 17 when Munna was beaten up by them. Since then, Munna was threatening Surojit and he had been undercover for some days. It has been learnt that he had come to meet his wife and children on Saturday. As per the complaint lodged with the police station, when Munna learnt about this, he came to kill Surojit.
Officers from Kasba police station and the anti-rowdy section of Kolkata Police's detective department visited the spot and recovered bullet marks at the spot where the alleged firing took place.
