Kolkata: The Anti-Human Trafficking Squad of Kolkata Police has busted a sex racket which was running in a guest house near Ballygunge station, late on Tuesday night.

According to sources, sleuths recently got information from a source that somewhere in Gariahat area, a sex racket had been running for the past few months. Working on the information, police zeroed in on a guest house near the Ballygunge railway station.

For the past few days, police personnel in plain clothes were keeping a strict vigil on the guest house, located at 240A Rashbehari Avenue.

On Tuesday night, sleuths who were keeping a watch saw that a few young girls were brought there and taken inside the guest house. Smelling something suspicious, senior police officials of the Anti-Human Trafficking Squad and Gariahat police station were informed.

Later on the same night, a joint team raided the guest house and found four young girls in compromising position.

Sleuths detained the owner and his assistant from the guest house and rescued the girls. Later, they came to know that a person identified as Krishnendu, along with his wife, used to bring young girls to the guest house.

Police later arrested Krishnendu and his wife from their hideout in Sonarpur. However, the couple originally hails from Burdwan. Sleuths have also arrested a total of 10 persons from the guest house, including the girls.

After being produced before the Alipore Court, the owner and the manager of the guest house were remanded to seven days police custody, while the rest of the accused persons were remanded to judicial custody.

Sleuths will interrogate the guest house owner and manager to know since when they were running the racket and from where they used to bring the girls. It is suspected that apart from running a sex racket they were also involved in human trafficking.
