Seven injured after crude bombs explode in Burdwan

Seven persons including three children suffered splinter injuries when some crude bombs exploded in a crowded area of Sahapara area under Ketugram police station in Burdwan, a few meters away from a local fair ground on Tuesday night.

The victims are undergoing treatment at the Katwa sub-divisional hospital. The children who received severe injuries on their bodies are stated to be in a serious condition. Senior police officers rushed to the spot immediately after the incident and started a detailed probe into the incident.

Tension ran high among the local residents following the incident. The blast took place where there was a fair going on and lots of people including many children congregated in the area. Local people told the police that they heard a loud explosion.

On reaching the spot, they found the seven persons including three children wreathing in pain as they suffered splinter injuries on various parts of their body. Police came to know from the local residents that the blast had taken place when two youth who were carrying a bag on a bicycle which suddenly fell on the ground. One of the two youth also received severe injuries in the incident. Meanwhile, cops are interrogating the other youth Rajesh Seikh who was allegedly carrying bombs in the bag.

Police have detained Seikh for his alleged involvement in the incident and are investigating where these bombs were being taken to by the accused. The investigating officers are not taking the incident lightly as similar incidents of blasts had earlier taken place in the district.

Police said that the bombs that were being carried inside the bag exploded after the bag fell on the ground. Three children along with others who were passing through the area received injuries. After hearing about the incident, local people rushed to their rescue and the victims were taken to a hospital for treatment. Police have started a detailed probe in this regard and are conducting raids to nab the culprits who might have engaged the two youth to take the crude bombs to a certain place.
