SER starts 12 rake service in all EMU trains

Kolkata: South Eastern Railway (SER) offered a New Year gift to its suburban commuters by starting 12 rake service in all EMU trains from Tuesday. The move will be of immense help to the passengers as more commuters can be accommodated.

The passengers of Howrah-Kharagpur-Midnapore section as well as of Digha and Amta line will be benefitted.

It may be mentioned that at present, SER runs 194 EMU service on an average daily with 30 rakes. Now, all these 30 rakes are 12 car coaches. "Previously, nine car rake were accommodating 918 passengers, whereas with the introduction of 12 car rake it will be 1,240 numbers of passengers per rake and there will be a sharp increase of 322 passengers in a normal service," a senior official of SER said.

In an effort to boost security, particularly for the women commuters, SER has already inducted 11 most modernised GPS-based energy saving, 3-phase indigenous EMU rakes with CCTV surveillance in the ladies' compartments.

SER has already provided CCTV based surveillance system at its important stations to enhance safety and security of the passengers.

Till now, 533 CCTV cameras have been installed at major and important stations of SER to ensure security of

the passengers.

The important stations where such cameras have been installed are Kharagpur, Midnapur, Santragachi, Jhargram, Gidhni, Sardiha, Ranchi, Muri, Tatanagar, Chakradharpur, Jharsuguda, Rourkela, Monoharpur, Goilkera, Jaraikela, Adra, Purulia, Bokaro Steel City, Godapiasal, Salboni and Piardoba among others.
