Senior Webel officials to visit Darjeeling, Kalimpong

Kolkata: A team comprising senior officials of Webel will visit Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts on Monday to select the spots where IT hubs will be set up.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had announced the setting up of IT hubs in the Hills at the recently held two-day Business Summit. The officials will sit with their counterparts in the office of the District Magistrate and visit a few spots that have been identified for the proposed hubs. The officials will conduct feasibility studies as well.
Webel has prepared the project report and once the sites are finalised, construction will begin.
It may be mentioned that Mamata Banerjee has over and again stressed on the setting up of IT hubs in the Hills. The students of the region have shown a keen interest in IT and many of them are taking courses in IT and IT-enabled services.
The state IT and Electronics department is setting up hubs in different districts. The response from the business community is very positive and once the IT hubs are constructed, a major development in the IT industry will take place in the districts.
It may be mentioned that IT major Infosys has registered 50 acres of land in New Town and is likely to take possession by March end.
Once the construction of the boundary wall is completed, Infosys will start construction of the IT park which will be completed within a time span of 15 months.
