Senior TMC leaders launch 'Janasanyog Yatra' after CM prod to reconnect with the masses

Kolkata: Mayor Firhad Hakim flagged off Janasanyog Yatra from Chandrakona Road in West Midnapore on Friday to win back the confidence of the masses.

Abhishek Banerjee, the all-India Trinamool Youth Congress president, was also present. The walk was carried out following the instructions of party supremo Mamata Banerjee.

It will be carried out in all the Assembly constituencies and the block leaders will also take part in it. The first phase of the walk will end in early July and will start again after the Martyrs' Day meeting on July 21. Banerjee has said over and again that intense contact needs to be set up with the people.

Hakim said the sole purpose of the rally will be to win back their confidence. "People should realise whom they had voted for? Did they vote to bring back violence in Bengal when innocent people will be killed or to live in a society that will be divided on the basis of communalism," he said. Hakim added that people will eventually understand their mistake and will stand by Mamata Banerjee.

Asked to comment on the action taken against leaders involved in taking cut money, Hakim maintained: "It is a canard spread deliberately by some people with vested interest. Less than 1 percent leaders are involved and our party chief has the guts to come out in the open and criticise those who have taken money from the beneficiaries."
