Security personnel of CP Chandannagar thrashed for protesting alcohol consumption

Kolkata: A security personnel of Commissioner of Police, Chandannagar, was allegedly beaten up by some of his colleagues on Friday night at a housing complex in Tollygunge for protesting against consumption of alcohol within the premises.

Sources informed that Sukh Sagar Singh, the complainant, lives in a flat at the Tollygunge Emergency Police Line with his family. On Friday night, he saw a traffic Sergeant of Kolkata Police along with some others consuming alcohol placing the food and bottles on the bonnet of a government vehicle. When he protested, all of them allegedly threatened Singh.

Later, he informed the Puja committee secretary of the housing complex about the incident. Immediately, the secretary warned them to not create any nuisance inside the housing premises. Later, when Singh was coming back, more than 10 persons surrounded him and allegedly thrashed him. His neighbours rushed to his rescue and admitted him to M R Bangur Hospital. A constable of the fire brigade and a Kolkata Police Home Guard have been arrested. The accused traffic Sergeant is absconding.

Meanwhile, mystery shrouds the death of a 48-year-old woman whose body with several injury marks was found at Bantra in Howrah on Saptami night.

A forensic team visited the spot to collect samples. Police said the victim, Rai Sardar, was a resident of Swarupnagar in North 24-Parganas. The body was found in a narrow passage beside a factory. There were severe injury marks on her head which led the cops to believe that she died after being hit on her head. Cops suspect that she was sexually harassed and later beaten up for protesting against the same.
