Security beefed up at HC after bomb threat

Kolkata: Tension cropped up over a threat letter received at the Calcutta High Court on September 9, where it was stated that multiple bomb blasts will take place inside the court premises.

According to a letter sent to the Home Secretary (Government of India) the letter was received on September 9 where the sender's name read as Hardarshan Singh Nagpal. After the letter reached the Calcutta High Court, police was informed and a case was registered at the Hare Street police station. The police found that a similar letter was sent to the Registrar of Madras High Court few days ago. The police came to know that Nagpal runs a home-based food business in Delhi. His daughter was divorced and she recently married again. Since then a dispute cropped up between Nagpal's son-in-law Rajender Singh and it is alleged that he is the person behind these letters.

Security has been tightened at Calcutta High Court with extra police personnel and sniffer dogs after the matter was brought to light.
