Section 307 added to NRS assault case

Kolkata: Despite the fact that five persons who were accused of beating up the junior doctors at NRS Medical College and Hospital being given bail, police on Monday were granted permission to add allegation of attempt to murder (Section 307 of the IPC) in the case.

According to sources, since the five accused persons of the NRS assault case were granted bail due to lack of evidence, junior doctors stated that they would go to strike again if the police fail to substantiate the allegations. Since then, sleuths were in a continuous process to gather information and search for an eye-witness who had seen Paribaha Mukhopadhyay getting assaulted.

While doing so, a junior doctor got in touch with the police and stated that he had seen the assault on his colleague. Later, sleuths decided to add the attempt to murder allegation in the case diary as it will make it stronger. As per the decision, an appeal was made for the same before the Magistrate which was eventually granted.

On the other hand, in the boxer molestation case at South Port police station, charge-sheet at Alipore Court on Monday has been submitted, accusing three youths who have already been arrested.

The charge-sheet in the boxer molestation case was submitted within 10 days of the incident. On June 28 morning, an internationally acclaimed lady boxer was allegedly molested in front of a policeman at the crossing of Diamond Harbour Road and Remount Road.

After she posted the incident on social media, senior officials of the Kolkata Police got in touch with her and later a case was initiated. On the same night, the three accused youths were arrested.
