Sealdah-Budge Budge train services hit due to derailment

Train services in the Sealdah-Budge Budge section was disrupted due to the derailment of a local train at New Alipore station on Thursday morning.

The local people said that at around 11 am, a local train derailed before entering the New Alipore station. As a result, the train services in both Up and Down lines in the Sealdah-Budge Budge section were badly affected. The passengers were also seriously inconvenienced.

The senior railway officials and engineers rushed to the spot immediately after the incident. Many trains were stranded in different railway stations. Train services remained affected in this section till late Thursday evening.

In another incident, a portion of the busy Diamond Harbour Road caved in Thakurpukur early Thursday morning. Traffic movement along the stretch was affected as the vehicles were forced to ply through a single lane. According to the police, 3 feet hole was created in the area and they cordoned off the area.

As the construction work for the Joka-BBD Bag Metro project has been going on at a portion of Diamond Harbour Road, vehicles were allowed to ply through a single lane. The incident had resulted in heavy traffic snarl in the area. Traffic police personnel were deployed in the area for managing traffic on the Diamond Harbour road. After being informed, senior officials and the engineers of the KMC and the officials of the Public Works Department (PWD) rushed to the spot and started the repair works.

The situation gradually became normal after 11 am when the road was repaired by the KMC engineers. The senior officials of the KMC and the PWD are examining the cause of the incident.
