Scattered rainfall in S Bengal in next 48 hrs

Kolkata: South Bengal districts will witness scattered rainfall in the next 48 hours but it will not reduce the discomfort level, predicted the Regional Meteorological Centre in Alipore on Saturday.

The weather office also added that all North Bengal districts will receive heavy rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday. The monsoon has already entered South Bengal on Friday, bringing rainfall in various parts. A light rain lashed the city and some other districts of South Bengal on Saturday afternoon. Some parts of South Bengal remained cloudy throughout the day.

The rain has provided some respite to the city dwellers from the severe heat spell sweeping through most parts of South Bengal in the past few days. The scattered rainfall will not, however, remove the discomfort level as the humidity may continue to shoot up.

According to MeT office prediction, districts like Purulia, Bankura, Jhargram, Birbhum, West Burdwan, North 24-Parganas will be marginally ahead in terms of the amount of rainfall they would receive in the next two days. The city's temperature would hover around 33-35 degree Celsius, which is much lower than what it had witnessed last week. The sky may remain mostly cloudy on Sunday in Kolkata. "The rain will intensify in North Bengal from Sunday while South Bengal districts will have light to moderate rainfall. Gusty winds may sweep through various South Bengal districts, particularly towards the evening, due to the prevailing low pressure trough. As a precautionary measure, the sea voyagers and fishermen have been alerted not to venture into the sea in the next couple of days," a weather official said.
