'Say no to plastic, reduce, reuse & recycle paper'

Kolkata: With awareness going up against the use of plastic , the paper industry has come up with a number of options to replace it.

To reduce pollution the paper industry has come up with a three fold solution, namely reduce, reuse and recycle paper.

The cost of production of recycle paper is at least 30 to 40 percent cheaper depending upon the location than the recycled plastic. The areas where the recycle paper is being used are drinking straws, napkins, grocery bags, paper cartons, paper cups and glass, food boxes and many daily use items. Sanjeev Batra, Director, Hyve India said, the slogan "Say yes to paper" is getting popularity. Due to the fundamental and technological revolution, 100 percent paper that is being produced is recyclable and biodegradable."

It may be mentioned that many shopping malls have replaced plastic bags by paper bags while many schools in the city are encouraging the students to bring paper bags instead of plastic bags. The state government has launched awareness campaign against plastic.

Mayor Firhad Hakim said the use of plastic will be stopped in phases. Paper is replacing plastic in both commercial and private daily use items.
