Kolkata: The residents of New Town will take a pledge to conserve water on July 12.

Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDC), New Town Kolkata Development Authority ( NKDA) and Nabadiganta Industrial Development Authority ( NDITA) will arrange programmes in their respective areas to create awareness on water conservation.

It may be mentioned that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will take part in a walk from Jorasanko to Mayo Road on July 12 to create awareness on water conservation.

There will be sit-and-draw competition and essay competition on water conservation in which children and youths will participate. There will be a slogan completion at New Town Business Club. The residents have been contacted to take up the matter and give suggestions to the government agencies.

Rallies will be taken out from Kolkata Gate, New Town Business Club and Gate number I and II of Eco Park. The rallies will converge at gate number II of Eco Park where a meeting will be held.

HIDCO will tell the residents what steps it has taken so far to conserve water. It has conserved 30 gallons of water per day by recycling sewer water which is used to water road side gardens.

In Café Ekante, no I litre drinking water bottles will be given to the guests. Instead of 500 ml and 200 ml will be given to the guests as a part of the water conservation measures. The guests who will ask for tap water will be given half glass water and the refilling will be done on request as it is often seen that the guests who come for lunch or dinner often waste water. The residents will take a pledge at the meeting not to waste water and create awareness among others to do the same
