Sarsuna murder case: Middle-aged man arrested

Kolkata: Police arrested a middle-aged man from Sitamarhi in Bihar on Thursday in connection with the Sarsuna murder case.
It may be recalled that a 32-year-old woman was killed inside her house at Sarsuna on September 28.
Acting on a tip off, a team of police officers from Sarsuna Police Station went to Bihar and conducted a raid in a hideout of the accused. The accused attempted to flee realising that the police had conducted a raid. The policemen chased and arrested the accused Pappu Kumar.
It may be recalled that a 32-year-old woman, Anupama Thakur, was found dead in her residence on Sarsuna Main Road. Autopsy report revealed that the woman was strangulated.
The police had initiated a probe and came to know that the accused had a rivalry with one Baliram Rai, with whom the victim had an affair.
A few months prior to the murder, Baliram had bought a piece of land and he had letter gifted the plot to the victim.
The accused had got engaged into an altercation with Baliram when the former came to know that the plot was gifted to the victim.
He went to the woman's house on September 9 and engaged into a heated altercation with her. He had even manhandled the woman and subsequently strangulated her to death.
Investigation revealed that the accused came to the city on September 27 and committed the crime the next day. He had fled to Bihar after committing the crime.
The accused will be brought back to the city on transit remand and he will be produced before a city court.
The police will be approaching before the court to get him in their custody for further interrogation.
