Santoshpur: Decomposed body of elderly recovered

Kolkata: The decomposed body of an elderly woman was recovered from her own residence at Santoshpur under Survey Park police station area on Friday late night. The deceased woman has been identified as Manju Saha (75).
Police sources informed that the woman and her husband Gostho Behari Saha used to live at the same house in Santoshpur but separately. The woman lived at the first floor while her husband lived on the ground floor. Locals on Friday night discovered a foul smell emanating from the house. When repeated knocks at the door went unanswered, the neighbours suspected something must have happened and called the police. The door was broken open and the decomposed body of the septuagenarian was found. Prima facie, it appears that the woman had a natural death. There are no injury marks in the body. The door was also bolted from inside which shows that there is no forcible entry," an officer of the Survey Park police station said.
Police sources informed that the decomposed body suggests that the woman died a few days back. Her husband who is unable to venture in the first floor owing to his illness informed the police officials that the deceased was also suffering from various ailments and was looked after by an ayah. The latter had taken leaves for a few days and both the husband wife duo, because of their ailments, failed to take stock of each other's health conditions.
However, some neighbours have informed that the woman could move on her own and would often go out for morning walks. However, they claimed that no one had spotted her in the last five or six days.
"We are exploring all angles," an investigating officer said. The deceased is the second wife of Gostho Behari Saha who had retired as a stenographer of Jadavpur University.
