Salary hike of MSK, SSK teachers

Kolkata: The state Education department on Monday announced an increase in the salary of teachers of Madhyamik Siksha Kendra (MSK) and Sishu Siksha Kendra (SSK). State Education minister Partha Chatterjee announced this hike after holding a meeting with a delegation of SSK and MSK in Salt Lake. The increased salary will be effective from April 1 this year. This is after eight years when teachers in these categories have had a pay hike.

According to sources in the department, an SSK teacher will now get a salary of Rs 10,000 compared to what they were getting earlier — Rs 5,954. The pradhans in SSK will get a pay of Rs 10,340.

On the other hand, the MSK teachers will get a pay of Rs 13,000 from their earlier draw of Rs 8,900. The pradhans of MSK will get Rs 14,000.

"The MSK and SSK teachers were under the Panchayats department till date. They have been now brought directly under the Education department," Chatterjee said.

Around 30,000 MSK and SSK teachers across the state have been agitating for the last few months demanding a salary hike. A few days back on July 12, they had organised an agitation at Bikash Bhavan to press for their demand.

On July 26 the state government brought out a notification effecting the hike in the grade pay of primary teachers across the state.

The grade pay of trained primary teachers was enhanced from Rs 2,600 to Rs 3,600 and the grade pay of untrained primary teachers will be Rs 2,900 up from Rs 2,300.
