Saffron party leaders carrying money under cover of Z-category security: Mamata
Ashoknagar (North 24-Parganas): Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee alleged on Friday that BJP leaders are carrying money under the cover of Z-category security.
Without naming Bharati Ghosh, the BJP candidate from Ghatal from whose possession the police recovered Rs 1.13 lakh on Thursday night, Banerjee said: "BJP leaders are carrying money in boxes under the cover of Z-category security. Why are even the journalists not allowed to go close to the helicopters used by the leaders?"
The Trinamool supremo said it is amazing that BJP is spending so much money on polls. "Where do they get so much money? Has the party got the money due to note ban?" she questioned.
It may be mentioned that Banerjee has repeatedly stressed on electoral reforms to bring transparency into the election process, including expenditure by the political parties.
Coming down heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for telling lies about Bengal, she said: "Modi is coming and criticising the law and order situation in Bengal. It is bogus. How many companies of Central Forces were deployed in Uttar Pradesh where several people had been lynched by Gorakshaks? He is distorting my speech. I did not say that I will slap him. I
had said that people of the state will
slap him politically. He should understand Bengali before making any statement."
Banerjee also challenged Modi to come for a face-to-face interview with her in any television channel of his choice. "I will ask him questions and I am ready to answer the questions that he will ask. The interview can take place in any television channel of his choice," she added.
She said never in the country have people developed so much disrespect for a Prime Minister and claimed people do so because of his arrogance. "I have worked with several Prime Ministers including Rajiv Gandhi, Narsimha Rao, Deve Gowda ji, Bajpai ji and Manmohan Singh, but I never saw a Prime Minister who speaks so many lies like Modi," said Banerjee.
Banerjee said people are sick and tired of the "muscle flexing of BJP." "When I had gone to Puri to visit Jagannath temple, BJP started telling people that I am not a Hindu. I was invited by the Ramakrishna Mission to attend a meeting at Chicago to celebrate the 125th year of Swami Vivekananda's speech at the World Parliament of Religions. But I could not go because of BJP. I was invited to address the students of St Stephens but they came in the way and the organisers eventually cancelled the meeting. BJP is intervening everywhere. They want to decide what we should eat and which god we should worship," she said.
Stating that Modi is criticising Trinamool for not carrying out any development work in Bengal when he himself is silent on his projects, she said: "Modi babu you have failed to keep promises which you made five years ago. People did not get Rs 15 lakh in their bank accounts. Job opportunities for 2 crore people per year have not been created. You will have to explain about your work in the past five years."
Banerjee urged people to cast their votes in favour of party candidate Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar. "She was very vocal in the Parliament and will continue to serve the area if elected," she said.
