Safe Drive Save Life campaign held in Balurghat

BALURGHAT: Traffic police of South Dinajpur conducted Safe Drive Save Life programme in Balurghat on Monday. School students took part in a colourful procession, sending out the message of safety awareness. A decorated tableau also took part in the rally.

The rally was inaugurated by district police chief Prasun Banerjee. Inaugurating the rally, Banerjee said: "The principal aim of conducting Safe Drive Safe Life programme with the school students is to grow consciousness about the road safety rules. We have tried to deliver a message about the basic knowledge of it."

Apart from school students, trained officials and civic volunteers of police took part in the programme as well.

A free eye check-up camp along with free distribution of spectacles for drivers was also conducted at a public bus-stand.

An ambulance for critical patients was also inaugurated by the district police chief, with the aim of providing fast medical assistance.

Deputy superintendent of police (headquarter) Dhiman Mitra, deputy superintendent of police (traffic) Anirban Paul Choudhury, additional police superintendent Debasish Nandi, chief medical officer of health Dr Sukumar Dey and officer-in-charge (traffic) of Balurghat Sanjay Mukherjee attended the programme along with several dignitaries and guests.

Police said they have organised similar programmes in Gangarampur and Harirampur as well.
