Sadhan Pande bats for fraud-free tour packages at Tourism Fair

Kolkata: State Consumer Affairs and Self Help Group (SHG) minister Sadhan Pande on Friday urged the organisers of Tourism Fair to take steps to weed out travel agencies that fleece people with the promise of attractive tour packages.

"We are getting a number of complaints against tour operators who are cheating customers by not providing them with the facilities they promise to them. We are taking action as per the ambit of the consumer law, but organisations of tour operators should identify such travel agencies and weed them out," Pande said, on the sidelines of the three day Tourism Fair that kicked off at Netaji Indoor Stadium and Khudiram Anushilan Kendra. The three-day fair that will continue till Sunday, is being held in association with Travel Agents Association of Bengal and is supported by the Union Ministry of Tourism and different state Tourism departments.

Pande said that his SHG department has recently given loan to ten women under Swami Vivekananda Swanirbhar Karmasanasthan Prakalpa, who will be soon rolling out battery operated pink auto rickshaws in popular beach destinations Digha and Mandarmoni.

"My department has handed over Rs 10 lakh to the District Magistrate of East Midnapore for developing home stay facilities at Mandarmani," Pande said.

Blue Eye India Pvt Ltd, the organiser of the fair at Netaji Indoor Stadium, said that they are focusing extensively on adventure tourism for the first time in India and the venture kicks off from Kolkata. The next venues for the fair will be Ahmedabad and

Mumbai. Around 200 travel and trade members from different parts of the country, along with tour operators are taking part in the three day fair. The stalls at the fair expect to start off bookings for

Durga Puja.
