'Sacked' school employee's body found in pond

Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of a youth in Rajarhat on Sunday morning. The body was seen floating in a pond by local residents.

Police said on Sunday morning, some local residents saw a decomposed body floating in a pond near Shilpota in Rajarhat. Rajarhat police station was informed. Later, police retrieved the body and sent it for autopsy. The deceased was identified as Kabirul Gaji (27) of Mohammadpur at Gajipara in Rajarhat.

According to his family members, Gaji was missing since Friday night. It is alleged that he received a phone call from one of his friend and went out of the home. Since then his family members failed to locate him. After being informed, police lodged a missing diary. However, on Sunday morning local residents at Shilpota saw body of Gaji floating in a pond.

Some of local residents claimed that there were several injury marks on Gaji's body. The police claimed that the marks were not due to injury and it developed as the body was decomposed and immersed in the water for a long time. However, the police are trying to know who had called Gaji on Friday night. But till Sunday night no foul play was detected.

The police also claimed that Gaji was addicted to drugs and also an alcoholic. He must have fell in the pond in drunken condition, cops said. He used to work in a private school in New Town but was recently sacked from the job. After that Gaji used to sell 'sattu' in front of the TCS building in New Town. Police are questioning his friends. No complaint was lodged till Sunday night.
