Ruckus in Bankura, Midnapore medical colleges as doctors refuse to work

Kolkata: Patients and their family members put up a road block outside the Bankura Sammilani Medical College and Hospital and Midnapore Medical College and Hospital, after they were denied treatment at various outpatient departments (OPDs) on Wednesday.

The health services were worst hit in these two medical colleges among others, after the junior doctors took part in ceasework, showing solidarity with the junior doctors of NRS Medical College and Hospital.

Many patients coming to the hospitals were seriously inconvenienced as they found no doctors at the OPDs. The picture was quite common in almost all the medical college hospitals throughout the state on Wednesday.

Contrary to the medical colleges, the doctors in Ghatal Sub-Divisional Hospital and some other hospitals in the district attended patients at the OPDs with black badges as a token of protest.

Chaos broke out at Midnapore Medical College and Hospital after the interns chased the police officers who came to the hospital to attend a meeting called by the principal. A meeting was scheduled inside the hospital campus, where the interns were organising a rally.

The principal urged the interns to attend the meeting. The police officers were also present. The interns alleged that the police officers had misbehaved with them. A group of interns then chased the police personnel.
