Rs 1 lakh withdrawn from S 24-Pgs resident's bank account using Aadhaar

Kolkata: Around Rs 1 lakh was withdrawn from the bank account of a resident of South 24-Parganas, without his knowledge. Investigation has revealed that the money was withdrawn from a branch of the nationalised bank, using the Aadhaar number of the complainant.
Police said that the complainant, Sushanta Maity, is a resident of Kakdwip in South 24-Parganas. It was detected on Tuesday, when he went to the Ukiler Haat branch of the nationalised bank, to deposit Rs 2,000 in his account.
After depositing the money, he got his passbook updated and found that Rs 1 lakh had been withdrawn from his account, even though he was unaware of the transaction. Without any delay, Maity went to Kakdwip police station and lodged a complaint in this connection.
The police came to know after speaking to the officials of the bank posted in the branch, that the money was withdrawn by someone from Belapur branch of the bank in Mumbai and the total amount of Rs 1 lakh was withdrawn in two to three phases.
The complainant was shocked after knowing that Rs 1 lakh had been withdrawn from his bank account, as both his ATM card and cheque book were with him only and he had never given them to anyone else. He himself had never withdrawn such a huge amount from his bank account.
The police have initiated a probe in this connection and would be questioning some of the bank officials to get more information about the same.
Though the police are yet to get a hold of the accused, officers from the city would go to Mumbai and take help of the local police there to arrest the accused.
The police would also take help of IT experts, to reach the root of the case and nab the culprit.
