Roadblock on NH-34 after patient's death

Kolkata: Family members of a 30-year-old woman who died of alleged medical negligence put up block on National Highway-34 leading to traffic congestion on the busy road.
The incident took place at Sadhanpur area of Amdanga in North 24 Parganas on Monday morning. It had prompted the senior district police officers to rush to the spot. After lasting for nearly half-an-hour, the demonstration was finally lifted following the intervention of the police. Police assured that family members of the deceased that they would look into their allegation of negligence.
Rina Devi (30), a resident of Uludanga area was taken to the Amdanga block health centre on last Thursday as she had been suffering from fever. The victim's family members alleged that the condition of the patient gradually deteriorated as she was not properly treated by the doctors.
It has been alleged that despite repeated pleas, the doctors did not attend the patient when her condition deteriorated on Sunday night. The family members alleged that the patient died after none of the doctors turned up to attend the patient. The family members also alleged that for the past four days, the patient did not get any attention at the health centre.
The angry mob put up a roadblock on National Highway-34 after the victim died at around 6 am on Monday. The family members of the victim also staged a demonstration in front of the local police station demanding action against the doctors whose negligence had led to the death of the patient.
