Roadblock after banner with CM's photo found ripped up

Kolkata: Many Trinamool Congress activists from South 24-Parganas on Saturday staged demonstration at Rabindranagar area after a banner with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's photograph on it was found torn.

The banner was put up at a nearby bus stand at Rabindranagar.

The party workers on Saturday morning found the banner torn and tattered which triggered chaos in the locality.

The irate TMC activists staged demonstration protesting against the incident. They alleged that a few BJP leaders from the area might have been involved in it.

They also put up a blockade at Santoshpur Station Road in the morning. A contingent of police rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control.

The road block was however, lifted within half-an-hour following instructions from their party leaders.

It may be mentioned here that the area falls under Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency where TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee is contesting from.

According to the TMC activists, it was a deliberate attempt by the BJP to create trouble in the area.

The district BJP leaders however, denied the

allegation saying that the TMC leaders were trying to malign them.

They also added that the police can examine the available CCTV footages.
