Ritabrata fails to turn up at CID office on Friday

Kolkata: Expelled CPI(M) leader Ritabrata Banerjee on Friday did not turn up for interrogation before the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The CID had issued notice to Banerjee summoning him for interrogation in connection with the allegations raised against him of sexually assaulting a woman on the pretext of marriage. Sources in the state CID said that Banerjee skipped the interrogation at their headquarters in Bhawani Bhawan without informing them that he will not be able to appear for the same. A person when served a notice usually informs the investigating agency if he is unable to depose or often sends his lawyer. "We feel that he did not turn up apprehending arrest," a senior CID official said.
A CID team went to the Garfa residence of Ritabrata on Wednesday evening and nobody responded when the CID officers pasted the notice on the door of his house.
Sources said that the CID officers are keeping a watch at the movement of Ritabrata and some of his associates. The complaint that was lodged against him with Balurghat police station alleges rape on the pretext of marriage.
It may be mentioned that on Tuesday, the complainant went to Balurghat police station where she lodged a complaint against the expelled CPI(M) leader. The complainant came in touch with Ritabrata through Twitter in 2016 and she had met him in Bangalore. She alleged that he had taken her to his South Avenue Apartment in New Delhi where he committed the act. He had assured her marriage and even went to the woman's Balurghat residence where he met her mother, the woman claimed in her complaint.
