Restaurants come up with special World Cup menu

Kolkata: The World Cup cricket fever has gripped New Town.

Three restaurants under West Bengal Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) — Café Ekante, Café Ajante and Biswa Bangla Gate Restaurant will serve special menu during the time of World Cup.

The official launch of the special event took place at Café Ajante on Thursday afternoon in presence of Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Laxmi Ratan Shukla and Hidco chairman Debashis Sen. Shukla, who has been part of the Indian national squad, cut a cake that resembled a cricket ground.

The restaurant has been decked up in accordance with the theme of the cricket world cup. Flags of all the participating nations have been put up and the pillars inside the restaurant have been decorated with flags of the countries taking part in the

event. Two large LED TVs has been placed on the wall of the restaurant so that people can enjoy the cricket match live while savouring dishes at the restaurant. Replicas of cricket bat and wicket have been placed on tables and on the verandah outside the restaurant. A statue of Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been set up just at in front of the replica of Eiffel Tower, which is just adjacent to Café Ajante. The statue has been made by artisans of Kumartuli.

A mat has been placed in front of the statue to encourage visitors to try their hand in cricket with all the equipment required for playing the game available at the restaurant.

A writing board has also been placed where visitors can write their comments or opinion about the ongoing game. These comments will be forwarded through e-mail to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

"The place's décor perfectly goes with the mood of the World Cup," Shukla said.
