Rejected by lover, 20-year-old girl commits suicide

Kolkata: A 20-year-old girl from South 24 Parganas committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan inside her house after being jilted in love. The incident took place at Radhanagar village under Mograhat police station in South 24 Parganas on Wednesday. The victim has been identified as one Rima Panja (20) who had an affair with a local youth.

The victim was a BA First Year student of Magrahat College. Police said that the victim committed suicide inside by hanging herself from the ceiling fan at her parental house. She took the drastic step after the youth with whom she had an affair for quite a long time denied the relationship. He had earlier promised the girl that he would marry her. In the course of investigation, police came to know that they had an affair for more than five years. But the accused recently developed a relationship with another girl and hence he used to misbehave with the victim. The local people told the police that the accused used to mount tremendous psychological pressure on the victim. The youth also told the victim that he would no longer continue the relationship. After failing to bear the pain, she committed suicide on early Wednesday morning.

The investigators are also going through the call list of the victim and are conducting raids.
