Rehab inmate found in pool of blood

Kolkata: A rehabilitation centre inmate was found lying in a pool of blood outside the centre at Ho-Chi-Minh Sarani in Parnasree on Sunday afternoon. It is suspected that the man committed suicide by jumping off from the roof of the centre. On Sunday, staff members of the Sneh Lata Rehabilitation Centre found that one of their inmates Rajib Chowdhury (35) of Tiljala had gone missing. Immediately, officials of the centre were informed. All the rooms, including bathrooms, were checked, but Chowdhury could not be found.

Meanwhile, a staff member saw someone was lying on the road just outside the centre. He rushed out and saw it was Chowdhury. He was rushed to Vidyasagar State General Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

According to sources, in March, Chowdhury was admitted at the rehabilitation centre for alcohol addiction.

Chowdhury was staying with a roommate at the centre. On Sunday, both of them went to the roof after having lunch to clean their utensils. Since then no one had seen Chowdhury. His roommate reportedly did not see him jumping off from the roof.

It is suspected that Chowdhury lost balance and fell while he leaning out from the roof. Question arose why the centre was running without constructing a wall surrounding the roof. A source informed that the centre authorities have promised to take corrective steps. An Unnatural Death (UD) case was lodged at the Parnasree police station.
