Ratna Chatterjee stages sit-in protest in front of Mayor's house

Kolkata: The soured relationship between Mayor Sovan Chatterjee and his wife Ratna took its ugliest turn with the latter organising a sit-in demonstration in front of Mayor's apartment at Southern Avenue.
Ratna started the agitation since late Thursday night alleging that her husband has been refusing to sign documents for her daugther's visa, who is scheduled to leave for Germany.
The husband wife duo has been living separately since November last year after Mayor filed a divorce petition at Alipore court.
Ratna started the sit-in demonstration accompanied by her daughter at around 1 am on the footpath infront of Chatterjee's residence claiming that the latter has got a chance to visit Germany in connection with a school project and he refuses to sign
visa documents.
"I have been trying to contact Sovan numerous times but he has been avoiding us.
His signature is required on some documents, so that my daughter can avail the visa," Ratna said. Chatterjee shot back questioning the authenticity of the documents on which Ratna is demanding his signature.
"I am being blackmailed and forced to sign on some documents that are not meant for my daughter's Visa.
I am the city Mayor and have to adhere to some international protocol. I cannot sign on any anything or everything," Chatterjee said.
He further questioned: "Why should I not sign on the my daughter's documents? Do you think 1 am is the time when somebody would come to sign documents?"
He maintained that as a divorce petition is pending before the court, he has to follow court order before taking any step.
Later at around 10 am in the morning, on the basis of Mayor's complaint, his wife was arrested by Rabindra Sarobar police station and later released on bail. Ratna on Friday afternoon lodged a complaint with the police station that some persons had
heckled her while she was peacefully agitating infront of Mayor's residence.
