Raju Shaw, 3 others get 14 days' CID custody

Kolkata: Raju Kumar Shaw, the Independent Councillor and three others who were arrested by the police from Uttar Pradesh on Sunday night in connection with the murder of the then municipal chairman of Bhadreswar municipality, have been remanded to 14 days CID custody after being produced before a district court in Hooghly.
Raju is one of the main accused in this incident. Some of the locals became infuriated on Wednesday morning and ransacked Raju's house, damaged a shop which was run by him. The other two accused are Baban Jadav and Prabhu Narayan Choudhury.
According to the police, Shaw is a resident of Vidyasagar Sarani of Bhadreswar in Hooghly, while Jadav is from S N Jute Mill area in the same district. Chowdhury has been hailing from Paikpara area under Bhadreswar police station area.
During the course of investigation, police came to know that Raju was present at the site where Upadhyay was shot dead by miscreants who came on motorcycles. The irate mob also went on rampage and ransacked a local club which was frequented by the accused. The incident occurred before he was produced at a district court. The locals demanded stringent punishment against Shaw and other accused who were involved in the murder. The incident triggered tension in the area. A huge contingent of police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
A special team with the help of UP police raided the Labour Colony Bazar area under Line Par police station in Firozabad in western part of Uttar Pradesh last Sunday night arrested the accused.
