Rain lashes South Bengal districts

Kolkata: Rains lashed various parts of South Bengal districts including the city on Friday evening bringing some temporary respite from the heat prevailing in Kolkata for the past couple of days.

The people in the city witnessed light to moderate showers along with breeze in the evening. Traffic movement in some parts of the city was slow following the rain. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Alipore earlier predicted light to moderate rainfall in various South Bengal districts. The rain and the breeze did not however have any major impact.

The rain lasted for half-an-hour. No major disruption of traffic was reported from the city on Friday.

According to a senior Met department official, there will may some scattered rainfall in some parts of South Bengal on Saturday. It also rained in some parts of South Bengal on Thursday night while in some places people experienced lightning.

According to a senior Met department official a clash between the Western disturbances and a wind moving towards the East direction has triggered the rainfall in the state. The sky in the city and some other parts may remain cloudy on Saturday.

People in South Bengal districts were witnessing persistent heat for the past few days as the mercury had started to soar up. According to the weather office the humidity level will be higher during day in the next few days adding to the discomfort. The temperature may fluctuate slightly during the night, said an official of the Met department.
