Rail blockade in Chakdah after local youth shot dead

Kolkata: A chaos broke out at Chakdah railway station on Saturday morning after some BJP workers put up rail block disrupting the railway services for a long time.

The incident originated after a local youth was shot dead by some local miscreants. The BJP leaders claimed that the victim was an active member of their party. The victim's family members, however, claimed that he never had any association with any political party.

Police are yet to ascertain the exact cause behind the murder. They are also verifying if the victim had been attached to any political party.

Probe is being conducted to know if there was any political angle into the incident. Police have sent the body for postmortem.

Some local leaders of the BJP put up rail blockade at Chakdah station at around 9.20 am on Saturday.

It was later lifted following the intervention of the railway officials and rail police. Soon after the incident, some others sat on the railway tracks at Badkulla and Birnagar in the Kalyani-Ranaghat- Krishnanagar section.

Many people were inconvenienced as the train services came to a grinding halt for sometime in the morning. BJP workers also put up a road block on National Highway 34. It was withdrawn following the intervention of senior police officers of the district.
