Rail block at Belghoria to protest death of student
Kolkata: The locals of Belghoria put up a rail block at Belghoria station for nearly half an hour from 6 pm on Monday after a school student was run over by a speeding train and another suffered critical injuries. Train services in the Sealdah main section were disrupted following the incident.
The deceased has been identified as Soham Roy. The injured victim was rushed to the College of Medicine and Sagore Dutta Hospital. The incident triggered tension in the area. According to local sources, the victims were talking to the each other when a long distance train suddenly came on the line resulting in the accident. The railway police reached the spot and recovered the body of the deceased. Police who have already started a probe in this regard are yet to confirm the exact cause of the accident. The rail block was lifted following the intervention of senior police officers. In another incident, a woman was killed when she was knocked down by a speeding train near Bamungachi railway station in the Sealdah-Bongan section on Sunday night. The victim was walking along the down line with her earphone on. Train services in the Sealdah South section was also disrupted after a crack developed in the railway track near Basuldanga station in the Sealdah-Diamond Harbour section on Sunday night.
