Racket duping UK, US, European nationals busted
Kolkata: The cyber crime police station of Bidhannagar Commissionerate busted a fraud racket from Salt Lake which has been defrauding people in USA, UK and other European countries with false promise of technical support. The sleuths on the basis of source information conducted a raid at the third floor of Srijan Park Building at Salt Lake Sector V and apprehended 27 persons.
"They had opened an office styled as Mind Web Info Solutions Private Limited and would make calls to abroad (USA, UK and other parts of Europe) disclosing themselves as representatives of two leading technology companies and thereby defrauded them by heavy amount in the name of technical support," a senior official of the cyber crime police station said.
The sleuths also recovered huge data of foreigners from the accused as well as a number of modern gadgets.
Police sources informed that the accused hired a space and were running this fraudulent business.
The persons who were arrested are mainly residents of Kolkata, New Town, North 24 Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly and Bankura. One Rohit Sen (20), who hails from Jamshedpur in neighbouring Jharkhand has also been nabbed in this connection.
