Pvt car loses control after tyre bursts, rams into tree after lorry hits from behind

A private car driver lost control over the steering wheel and hit a tree, reportedly after his car's tyre burst at Hudco crossing on Saturday morning. A speeding lorry which was coming from behind hit the car soon after its collision with the tree trunk. Shib Prakash Agarwal, the person who was driving the car, received injuries and he was taken to the hospital.

"The car was coming from Salt Lake and going towards Ultadanga. We heard a loud sound of a tyre bursting and saw the car hitting the tree trunk. The lorry which was coming just behind the car also lost its control and collided with the backside of the car," said an eyewitness.

Local residents and traffic police officers moved the injured driver out of the car and took him to the hospital.

"The man was going for a medical check-up at Ultadanga, which his family members informed us. The accident happened due to the sudden tyre burst," a police officer confirmed. The traffic police, however, managed to control the traffic congestion within a couple of hours after the incident.

In another incident, seven persons were critically injured and admitted to a local hospital at Basirhat after toto and auto rickshaw drivers started fighting among each other.

"At least 50-60 auto and toto drivers started fighting on Saturday morning over route-related issues. The auto drivers started the fight with pelting stones at toto drivers. Soon, the toto drivers retaliated with similar actions. Later, drivers from both the ends started fighting face-to-face," said a police officer.

"The rivalry between auto and toto drivers has been a common affair and the commuters in Basirhat Town Hall area are victims of these clashes. On Saturday, several common people received injuries while these unruly drivers were fighting with each other," said a local resident.
