Push to promote Bengali films during Pujas

Kolkata: The Mamata Banerjee government has taken an active role in its effort to promote Bengali films during the festive season that starts with the Durga

Puja from the first week of October .

A good number of Tollywood movies are slated to be released during the Durga Puja.

Additional Secretary of state Information & Cultural Affairs (I&CA) department Sudip Ghosh has written to the President of Multiplex Association of India (MAI) advising him to screen good number of Bengali films in prime time to promote Bengal Film industry during that period.

Ghosh's letter requests Deepak Ashar, the president of MAI to advise all operators in West Bengal, to screen Bengali films in prime time slot during the festive season from October to December 2019.

Actor Dev, who is also the Trinamool Congress MP of Ghatal in West Midnapore, had flagged off the concern of the Tollywood industry that Bengali films are not getting the proper release platform during the Durga Puja.

He had urged the Bengali film industry to come forward for the sake of Bengali movies.

"I had appealed for the sake of not only my films but for the Tollywood film industry as a whole. I thank Didi (Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee) and the state government for standing beside Bengal's culture, Bengali language and Bengali cinema in such a manner. Give us the level playing ground and we are ready to fight hard. Stand beside Bengali films," tweeted Dev attaching the I & CA letter in this regard.

It may be mentioned that Banerjee herself holds the charge of I& CA department. Srijit Mukherji's Gumnaami, Arindam Sil's Mitin Mashi, Sayantan Ghosal's Satyanweshi Byomkesh and Kamaleswar Mukherjee's Password are all slated to be released on October 2, the day of Chaturthi. Password features Dev in the lead role.
