Puruliya DM pays surprise visit at Deben Mahato Sadar Hospital

Kolkata: District Magistrate (DM) of Puruliya Rahul Majumdar made a surprise visit to Deben Mahato Sadar Hospital and was shocked to see that maximum number of doctors and other staff were not doing their duty properly.

According to sources, on Tuesday afternoon, Majumdar decided to visit to Deben Mahato Sadar Hospital to check the services as he had received a few complaints regarding staff of the hospital that they were not maintaining their duty timings.

Around 1 pm, he along with Addition District Magistrate (ADM), Development Indranil Mukherjee reached the hospital and found that in the pathology department only one technician was present. But, there were six pathologists on duty. Also, two doctors were present in the department. As a result, several patients were being refused.

Seeing this Majumdar got irked and made a video recording of the situation at the hospital.

Following that Majumdar asked the technician that if any patient arrives at that the moment from Bandowan which is almost 60 kilometers from the hospital, will he refuse to serve due to absence of staff. The technician failed to answer DM's question.

Following the DM visit, Chief Medical Officer of Health of Puruliya Anil Dutta was called.

Other technicians of the pathology department also arrived at the hospital and were shocked to see the DM at the hospital. Majumdar reportedly asked the technicians that as per the rules till what time the pathology department should remain opened.

Replying to his question, one technician said the pathology department is scheduled to open till 12 pm and another said till 5 pm.

Majumdar realised that none of the hospital employees know the time schedule. Majumdar later instructed to keep the pathology department open from 9 am to 8 pm. He also sought report on the issue.
